LAKEFRONT ARENA | NEW ORLEANS, LA.
SUN BELT CONFERENCE TOURNAMENT TITLE ON LINE AS WKU FACES ARKANSAS STATE
- With the chance to win the 10th Sun Belt Conference Tournament Championship in program history, WKU (23-8, 13-5) faces Arkansas State (22-10, 14-4) in the finals of the 2014 Sun Belt Conference Championship at Lakefront Arena in New Orleans, La. The game will be televised nationally by ESPN3 with Mike Morgan (@MorganOnAir, play-by-play) and LaChina Robinson (@Lives2Inspire, analyst). WKU is seeking its 17th NCAA Tournament berth with a win against the Red Wolves.
- WKU is making its 20th all-time appearance in the championship game of the Sun Belt Conference Championships. WKU is 9-10 in its previous 19 title game appearances. Senior guard Chaney Means is the only player on the WKU roster who was on the roster in WKU's last appearance in the SBC title game (March 8, 2011 vs. UALR) but she did not see any game action.
- WKU's 23 wins in 2013-14 are the most for a WKU team since the 26 wins registered in 2007-08. It is just the fifth time in the last 19 seasons that WKU has won 23 or more games.
- With a win against Arkansas State, Michelle Clark-Heard would become the second WKU coach to lead the Lady Toppers to a Sun Belt Conference Championship within their first two years as the WKU coach. Mary Taylor-Cowles led WKU to the title in 2003, her first year at WKU.
- Junior Chastity Gooch has scored in double figures in 20 consecutive games, marking just the seventh time since the start of the 2000-01 season that a WKU player has put together a streak of 20 consecutive games in double figures. Junior Alexis Govan had a 47-game streak before her injury earlier this season that has kept her out of the entire conference slate and conference tournament.
- WKU has now won nine consecutive games, marking the longest streak since an 11-game winning stretch during December 2007, January 2008 and February 2008. The nine-game streak is the longest of the Michelle Clark-Heard era, besting the seven-game streak achieved during December and January of the 2012-13 season.
