BIRMINGHAM, Ala.—Home runs in back-to-back innings gave UAB (9-12) a 3-0 win over the Western Kentucky University softball team (15-8-1) on Tuesday at the UAB Softball Field.
The Blazers' bats were clicking on all cylinders, as UAB posted nine hits, led by a trio of players with two hits each. WKU found one hit in the contest, coming off the bat of sophomore Brooke Holloway in the third inning after she doubled down the left field line.
In the circle, senior Emily Rousseau (8-6) pitched the entire game, as she had all three runs earned with five strikeouts and no walks handed out. For UAB, Leigh Streetman (7-6) earned the shutout victory after striking out three batters with only the lone baserunner allowed.
UAB jumped on the board first, as Megan McGrath opened the bottom second with a home run to left field. The Blazers repeated the action in the next frame after Kristen McGrath hit a long ball over the left field fence to make the score 2-0.
Another run came across home plate in the fifth for UAB, as the Blazers had a hit, bunt and groundout put runners at third and second. A RBI single from Anna Theriot brought in Caitlin Attfield to bump the lead to 3-0.
