FORT MYERS, Fla.—The Western Kentucky University softball team (3-1) split the second day of the FGCU/Four Points by Sheraton Invitational, winning the first game 6-0 over Georgetown (1-3) before falling to host Florida Gulf Coast (3-0) 3-2 on Saturday.
Senior Olivia Watkins totaled four hits in the pair of games while senior Amanda Thomas and freshman Andie Martin added a pair of hits each.
Freshman Hannah Miniard and senior Emily Rousseau were in the circle for WKU, combining for seven hits allowed and 12 strikeouts.
WKU looks to bounce back on Sunday, Feb. 9 for a 1:30 p.m. CT contest against a to-be-determined opponent based on seeding from previous results.

GAME ONE—WKU 6, Georgetown 0
WKU only scored in one inning, but it was enough to win the game, as the Lady Toppers opened Saturday with a 6-0 win over Georgetown.
The Lady Toppers exploded for six runs in the fifth inning off of just three hits and one error by the Hoyas. The frame opened with a double from Sadler to center before Watkins singled. Steward then reached on a fielder's choice before an error allowed the two runners to score.
Steward then score on a Mattox fielder's choice before a pair of walks loaded the bases with just one out. Martin then stepped to the plate for a double to center to clear the bases and close out the offense for WKU.
Watkins went 3-for-4 in the game while Martin finished 2-for-2 with three RBI.
Freshman Hannah Miniard (1-0) notched the complete game in her first collegiate start, allowing just two hits while walking six and striking out six.
GAME TWO—FGCU 3, WKU 2

Florida Gulf Coast came from behind to take a 3-2 win, handing the Lady Toppers their first loss of the season.
Thomas led the team with two hits while Watkins, junior Preslie Cruce and sophomore Brooke Holloway added one each.
Rousseau (2-1) took the loss, giving up five hits and two earned runs while walking one and striking out six.
The Eagles quickly took the early advantage, as the first batter of the game flew a home run over the left field wall. WKU gained the lead in the top of the third, putting the first run on the board on a Cruce RBI single to score Holloway. Watkins then made the score 2-1 after reaching home on a FGCU error.
FGCU tied it up in the fourth, capitalizing on a WKU miscue before notching the game-winning run in the fifth, as a triple followed by a RBI single would seal the game.
