BOWLING GREEN, Ky. - WKU senior sprinter Elvyonn Bailey captured his second Sun Belt Conference Men's Track Athlete of the Week honor after securing two wins at last weekend's Iowa State Classic, the league announced Wednesday.
Bailey anchored WKU's victorious 4X400-meter relay at the prestigious Iowa State Classic, running the last leg to cap the NCAA's 10th fastest relay time this season. The 4X400-meter relay time leads the Sun Belt Conference by over four seconds and was the second fastest clocking in WKU's storied track history.
Bailey also notched an individual win in the 200-meter dash, besting the field with a 21.32 showing in the event. The clip was a personal best for Bailey and was the fifth fastest time in WKU history.
The Track Athlete of the Week award is Bailey's second of the season and the Hilltoppers fourth overall honor from the league this season. Combined with the Lady Toppers, WKU Track and Field has had at least one honoree during each week of the indoor track and field season.
Heading into next week's Sun Belt Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships, Bailey leads the league in the 400-meter dash and 4X400-meter relay, ranks third in the 200-meter dash and fourth in the 60-meter dash.
WKU Track and Field will head to Birmingham, Ala. on Feb. 24-25 to compete in the SBC Indoor Championships at the Birmingham Crossplex. For more information on WKU Track and Field, follow @WKUTrackField on Twitter or visit WKUSports.com.
