BOWLING GREEN, Ky. - WKU sophomore defender Chandler Clark has been named the Sun Belt Conference Defensive Player of the Week after playing all 200 minutes of last week's action against Belmont and Lipscomb, the league announced Tuesday.
Clark has emerged as a staple on the backline for the Lady Toppers this season and her play on the defensive and offensive end sparked WKU to a pair of positive results last week. She played all 110 minutes against Belmont, anchoring a backline that surrendered just nine shots while also firing two shots on goal.
Against Lipscomb, Clark scored her first goal of the season and second of her career when she won a corner from senior Chrissy Tchoula and buried it in the back of the net with a header. She played all 90 minutes against the Lady Bison, aiding the Lady Topper backline in allowing just four shots on goal.
Clark's Defensive Player of the Week honor is the first of her career and the second defensive award for WKU this season, as senior goalkeeper Nora Abolins was named the Sun Belt Conference Defensive Player of the Week on Sept. 3.
Clark and the Lady Toppers return to the pitch Friday at the WKU Soccer Complex when they open Sun Belt Conference action against ULM at 6 p.m. Friday's game will be a "Kick For Pink" match as all fans wearing the color pink will receive free admission and the first 200 fans will receive free pink towels.
