NASHVILLE, Tenn. - The WKU men's and women's cross country teams opened their 2013 season at the Belmont Opener at Percy Warner in Nashville, Tenn. Friday evening, with David Mokone and Louise Hill-Stirling recording WKU's top finishes.
Mokone tallied his seventh career top-ten finish in a cross country race, coming in at 15:57.02 to capture fifth-place honors in the 5,000-meter race. Hill-Stirling, a sophomore, placed 24th in the women's 5,000-meter race with a time of 18:59.19.
Each of the Lady Toppers top-five runners finished 50th or better in Friday's 5,000-meter race, a feat that didn't occur once in the 2012 season. Sophomores Lindsey Hinken, Katie Lever and Baylee Shofner all broke 20 minutes in the race while Carlin wasn't far behind at 20:01.58.

The Hilltoppers were led by Mokone but received major contribution from sophomore Aaron Stevens as well. Stevens finished in 35th place at 16:44.37, his highest finish in any cross country race by 21 spots. Joshua Price, Kamohelo Mangojeane and Lucas Atherton competed in their first cross country meets as Hilltoppers, rounding out WKU's top five finishers.
Both teams will be back in action Sept. 14 at the Commodore Classic in Nashville, Tenn.
