BOWLING GREEN, Ky. - The WKU baseball program will be hosting its annual summer baseball camps during the months of June and July at Nick Denes Field.
The WKU Youth Baseball Camp will run for ages 6-12 from June 10-13, and July 8-11 for three hours. The youth camp will cover the fundamentals and basics of baseball including catching, throwing, defense and hitting. All campers will have an opportunity to learn the basic fundamentals of the game of baseball, while participating in numerous drills and competing in coach-pitch games.
From June 17-20 Nick Denes Field will have its doors open for middle school campers, as incoming sixth graders all the way up to incoming freshmen in high school can participate in the WKU Middle School Camp. The four-day camp will be run like an actual WKU baseball practice, with each camper receiving a pair of team-issued practice tops.
The mornings of the camp will be centered around instruction and preparation such as positional breakdown, offensive rotations, situational baseball and the importance of the short game both offensively and defensively. Lunch will be provided daily during a mid-day break and will be followed by live scrimmages with at least two days against live pitchers. The other two days of camp will consist of coach-pitch scrimmages focusing on how to excel in situational baseball.
The WKU Middle School Camp is for individuals or teams and is a great opportunity for players to get a behind the scenes look at what a day in the life of a college baseball player is truly like. The camp is designed to help players transition to the larger dimensions of the high school and college field and learn the daily habits of what it takes to be a successful player at the high school and collegiate level.
