NEW ORLEANS – Western Kentucky University softball outfielder Kelsie Mattox was named Sun Belt Conference Softball Player of the Week, the league office announced Monday.
Mattox, an Alpharetta, Ga. product, led the team with a .643 batting average over the week with nine hits, including three doubles and three home runs. She tallied a hit in each of the five contests as well as a home run in each game against ULM. The outfielder garnered a slugging percentage of 1.500 and on-base percentage of .688.
The junior was a triple shy of hitting the cycle in game three vs. ULM. She posted a season-high and tied her career high with four RBI in game one against the Warhawks. Mattox currently holds a six-game hitting streak and seven-game streak of reaching base safely in conference play.
Mattox earned the nod for SBC weekly honors for the third time in her career after winning the accolade once in each of her first two years. She is the fifth different Lady Topper to win a weekly award this season, as sophomore Preslie Cruce, senior Katrina Metoyer, junior Emily Rousseau and senior Mallorie Sulaski won previously.
The Lady Toppers will be back in action on Tuesday, April 16 when the team hosts Belmont at 5 p.m. WKU will return to conference action on Saturday with a three-game series at Troy.
