LADY TOPPERS TRAVEL TO MUNCIE TO FACE BALL STATE CARDINALS
- Junior guard Alexis Govan is within reach of 1,000 career points in her next outing, needing 20 points to reach 1,000 for her career. The game with Ball State marks her 71st game in a WKU uniform. WKU has 33 members in its 1,000 point club with the most recent addition to the group being Amy McNear on Jan. 29, 2011. Former Lady Topper Crystal Kelly is the school's all-time leader in scoring with 2,803 points in 130 games. Kelly needed 51 games to reach the 1,000 point mark in her career, the quickest mark in program history.
- Six Lady Toppers whose hometowns are outside of the state of Kentucky will have the chance to play in the state they hail from this season. Including four Kentuckians, 10-of-14 players on the WKU roster will play in their home states this season. Sophomore Jalynn McClain and senior Bianca McGee will play in their native Indiana on Dec. 7, 2013 when the Lady Toppers travel to Ball State.
- With more emphasis on freedom of movement in college basketball in 2013-14, several notable changes have shown up on the stat sheet. WKU has attempted 18 or more free throws in every game this season after doing it 17 times over the course of a 33-game schedule last year. WKU has committed at least 17 fouls in every game this season and had been whistled for 24 on three occasions. WKU was never called for more than 21 fouls in a game last season.
- WKU has made major strides on the defensive end in recent games, holding three of the last five opponents it has faced to under 35.0 percent shooting from the field. WKU held teams at or below 35.0 percent from the field just eight times last season. After giving up 23 three-point field goals in the opening three games of the season, WKU hasn't allowed more than four three-point field goals in a game over the last four outings.
- Senior Bianca McGee will participate in graduation ceremonies on Dec. 14 as she has completed her degree in Interdisciplinary Studies with an emphasis in Physical Therapy. McGee will begin work in graduate school in physical therapy during the spring semester.
- The Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) announced nominees for the 2014 Allstate WBCA Good Works Teams® on Dec. 3, 2013, including Means. The award recognizes a select group of college basketball student-athletes who have made significant contributions to the greater good of their communities through volunteerism and civic service. Means is one of 52 student-athletes in Division I and the only player from the Sun Belt Conference nominated for the award. In its second year, the Allstate WBCA and NABC Good Works Teams® honor players at all levels of college basketball who represent the sport's finest in the areas of leadership and charitable achievements amongst their peers.
