BOWLING GREEN, Ky. - The WKU Baseball program will host its Select Camp for high school players on Saturday, Jan. 11 at Nick Denes Field with a session focused on hitters and another session honing in on pitcher and catcher skills.
The hitting session will run from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. (CT) and will be structured on the development of hitters. The WKU coaching staff will cover the mental and physical approach to hitting, mechanics, bunting and many more aspects that are used to develop a complete offensive player.
The pitcher and catcher session will be held from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. and will learn the responsibilities of playing the pitcher and catcher positions at the Division I level. Pitchers will learn pre and post-game pitching routines, proper throwing mechanics, information on pitch development, building the correct delivery and arm care to help avoid injury. Pitchers will also have the opportunity to throw live to catchers.
Catchers will also have the opportunity to catch live pitchers. During drill work, they will learn mechanics of blocking, receiving, throwing, footwork and many more intangibles that create elite collegiate catchers.
The cost of the hitting session is $80 while the pitcher and catcher session costs $65. Registering for both sessions costs $130.
