"I was very happy with the way we started out," said head coach Michelle Clark-Heard. "Just to have the opportunity to jump on the team and work on some different things. I was proud of the team for the way we came out of the locker room."
Freshman center Bria Gaines had a game high 15 points and added 12 rebounds, both career highs, as Gaines recorded the first double-double of her career. Junior forward Chastity Gooch also posted a double-double with 12 points and 13 rebounds. Junior Alexis Govan added 13 points as she extended her streak of scoring in double figures in consecutive games to 45, the second longest active streak in the nation and third longest at WKU since the start of the 2000-01 season.
"I'm really excited for (Bria Gaines) because she needed a breakout game like this," said Clark-Heard. "She's been doing really good in practice and having spurts. Her confidence, you could see it as the game started to go more and more. She was running a little faster, catching passes, and being aggressive."
