On Glenville's pace of play...
"I think we did a great job. I think the game plan that we came out with, we tried to zone press and we backed our mad dog up, so they couldn't get up early quick threes. That was our main focus. I think it worked. I was really proud of our girls in the beginning and the way we started the game. Of course, just like with any team, you hit a little lull and we started making some careless passes and doing some things. Overall, I was really impressed with the starters when they came out."
On Alexis Govan and Chastity Gooch...
"It was huge. I think their mentality, when we were in the locker room talking before we came out, that this was important for us to go out and have a good showing and go out and get better. The season's right around the corner. We've challenged them in practice the last couple of days about the ability to guard the three, the ability to jump on Glenville State early, because there team is capable of putting up good numbers when they shoot the three and get a lot of points. We wanted to make sure we could limit that."
On the play of reserves...
"I was really excited. At different times, we've still got some things, to work out some kinks. But, I was really excited and proud of the first group and the numbers that they put up so that I did get the chance to put a lot of people in and play some different combinations."
On play in second half after lull...
"I think they responded great. We came out of the locker room and I don't know, but I think we scored maybe the first six points coming out of the locker room. I think that it was really good. They responded well. I just talked a lot to them about, it's really good now that I have the returners that I do, because they're used to how I coach, they know that when we get into the locker room at halftime, we're going to correct them on the things that need to be done, and how we can put ourselves in the position to get better. I was super proud of Micah Jones tonight. She played great. She made big shots. She took care of the basketball. She did a lot of things. So, along with Chastity and Alexis, Micah Jones played great, too. I was really proud of her."
On takeaways from the two exhibition games...
"I think what we take away is that being able now to learn we get some of our rotation in; the starters and the kids that are coming in. That's really important for the coaching staff. I think the next thing is we got a chance to work on our mad dog defense in a different light than we normally do. In the first exhibition game, we worked on another press that we had put in earlier. So, these exhibition games gives us a chance to work on things that we need to and be in a situation where we can go back and evaluate the things that we do need to work on. We have to take care of the basketball. We have to get better at that. We turned the ball over, and another thing I was very disappointed in tonight was our free throws. We didn't shoot free throws, and we shoot 61 percent, you're not going to win too many games. Last year, we prided ourselves on that. We ended up shooting, like, 73 percent for the year. So, we've got to get back in the gym and get that done."
