LOUISVILLE, Ky. - Soggy conditions couldn't rain on WKU sophomore Lindsey Hinken's career day at the Greater Louisville Classic on Saturday morning as she led the Lady Toppers' cross country team with a personal record 5K time of 17:55.10 at E.P. Tom Sawyer Park.
Hinken paced WKU with a 28th-place finish out of 288 runners in the women's gold division, posting her career-best 5K time despite damp course conditions. Her top finish for WKU was the fourth time in her young career that she has led all Lady Topper runners in a cross country race.
Fellow sophomores Katie Lever (18:28.83), Taylor Carlin (18:46.69) and Baylee Shofner (19:32.49) also notched career-best performances while junior Jodi Miller finished 89th overall with an 18:40.12 clocking.
The Lady Toppers placed 12th out of 20 Division I competitors, besting Southeastern Conference foe Vanderbilt, rival Middle Tennessee State and defending Sun Belt Conference champion Georgia State.
Junior David Mokone led the Hilltoppers for the third-straight meet, posting an 8K time of 25:59.30 to capture 98th place out of 269 runners in the men's gold division. Sophomore Aaron Stevens was WKU's No.2 finisher for the third time this season as well, crossing the line at 26:42.86.
The Hilltoppers finished 19th in the Division I team standings.
Both the Lady Toppers and Hilltoppers will run in the Evansville Invitational on Oct. 19 in Evansville, Ind. in their final regular-season tune up before the Sun Belt Conference Cross Country Championships on Nov. 2.
