BOWLING GREEN, Ky. -- It was a busy day for the WKU golf squads as both the men and women competed over the course of three different events on Monday.
While the women competed in Jonesboro, Ark., at the Lady Red Wolves Classic, the men were split up over a pair of events including the F&M Bank APSU Intercollege, held in Hopkinsville and the Dayton Flyer Invitational in Dayton, Ohio.
For the women, a third place finish on the day was in the cards as Ellinor Haag and April Butler turned in a pair of top-10 finishes to pace the team in an event with three SBC member teams.
On the men's side, the Dayton-bound squad finished the day in a three-way tie for second place and just four strokes total off the overall lead. In Hopkinsville, the squad ended the two-round day tied for eighth overall.

In Dayton, Cameron Beal's one-under 69 paced the Tops to a second place finish in the opening round. Beal's 69 put him two strokes back from Cleveland State's Andrew Bailey who led the individual scorers and put Cleveland State at the top of the team boards.
The par 70, 6,828 yard NCR Country Club played host to the event in Kettering, Ohio, and was hosted by the University of Dayton.
"We left some shots out on the course, but I'm proud of the way our guys handled themselves today," said Hilltopper coach Phillip Hatchett. "I'm really proud of the way we played throughout the day, and we are looking forward to tomorrow to have the opportunity to go for our first win of the fall. As a collective team, all of our meetings have been getting better and we're doing all the right things."
Keith Tooley gave the Tops another finisher in the top-20 as he turned in a two-over 72. Trey Aguirre carded a stroke higher, at 73, to finish tied for 25 while Brandon Beckham carded a 74 to finish at No. 32 overall.
Taylor Thompson rounded out the scoring with a six-over 76 to finish in a tie for No. 51.
Held at the par 72, 7,132 yard, `The Links at Novadell' course, WKU's other squad finished at No. 8 overall on the day in Hopkinsville.
Conor Griffiths and Andy Gladden turned in one-under 143's on the day to lead the squad while finishing the day at No. 19 overall.
Nate Johnson's 147 (75-72) saw him finish in the top-40 overall, tying for No. 39, while Nick Thompson carded a 153 (74-79) to finish at No. 75. Colin Frizzell rounded out the team scoring as the freshman turned in a 154 (76-78) to finish at No. 77 overall.
Austin King, participating as an individual, tallied a 146 (76-70) on the day to finish at No. 34.
Both teams are back in action tomorrow morning.
Women's Recap:
The women's golf team continued their impressive fall run on Monday, turning in a third place finish after two rounds at the Lady Red Wolf Classic, held at the par-72, 6,138 yard Sage Meadows Country Club.
Haag, who has a pair of top-three finishes already this fall, finished the two-round day at No. 4 overall, carding a one-under 143 (70-73) to lead the Tops. April Butler's four-over 148 (74-74) gave the Tops another top ten finisher as she tied for ninth overall.
"It was a good, consistent day for us," said head coach Ron Burchett. "There are always things to improve on and we will do that tomorrow and look to improve on our scoring."
Daniela Galassi and Michaela Bordeianu gave WKU four golfers in the top 20 as they finished No. 13 and No. 16, respectively, on the day. Galassi carded a 152 (75-77) while Bordeianu finished three strokes higher, tallying a 155 (75-80).
McKenzie Smith rounded out the scoring with a 168 (82-86) to finish at No. 30.
ULM lead all teams on the day with four of the top 11 individual scores and a 575 team score while fellow SBC member and host Arkansas State, finished the day at No. 2 overall with a 587.
Play resumes tomorrow morning with an 8:30 a.m. shotgun start.
