BOWLING GREEN, Ky. — Sophomore shortstop Amanda Thomas was named the Sun Belt Softball Player of the Week on Monday. This is Thomas' second Player of the Week honor this season, earning the honor on March 12.
Thomas hit a home run in each of WKU’s three wins last week against Evansville and Middle Tennessee. She hit a two-run home run in the Lady Toppers’ 3-0 win over Evansville on Thursday. In game one of Saturday’s doubleheader at Middle Tennessee, Thomas went 2-for-4 with a solo home run as WKU won 4-0. She hit a three-run home run in the nightcap, a game the Lady Toppers’ won 10-1. Thomas also had an RBI sacrifice fly in that game as well. For the week, Thomas hit .400 and slugged 1.300 with seven RBI.
The fifth-seeded Lady Toppers will take on fourth seed North Texas on Wednesday in the 2012 Sun Belt Conference Softball Championship in Boca Raton, Fla. First pitch is scheduled for 3 p.m. CDT.
