Senior Joseph Chebet will lead the Hilltoppers into their second postseason competition, aiming to win his third-straight meet and advance to the NCAA Championships.
Chebet is coming off a Sun Belt Conference championship run at Kereiakes Park, where he captured the individual title with an 8,000 meter clocking of 24:46.7. He also earned victories at Pre-Nationals on Oct. 13th and at the Commodore Classic on Sept. 15.
The Hilltoppers return three runners from last year's 10th-place Southeast Region team. Sophomore David Mokone led the way with a 32nd-place finish while senior Kyle Chettleburgh and sophomore Sean Hurd placed 69th and 159th, respectively.
The men's gun will go off at 12:15 PM (CT) and the regular-season mark of 8,000 meters will be bumped up to 10,000 meters for regional action. The top 25 finishers in the race earn All-Southeast Region honors while NCAA Championship qualifiers are selected based off times ran.
Senior Vasity Chemweno leads a youthful Lady Topper bunch into the Southeast Regional. Chemweno is coming off her third-consecutive All-Sun Belt Conference performance at the Sun Belt Championships, where she placed ninth in the 5,000-meter race.
Freshman Lindsey Hinken has been a breakout rookie for WKU, finishing top 10 in her last two races and top 25 in all but one event this season. Hinken's seventh place finish at the Sun Belt Championships led the Lady Toppers and earned her All-Sun Belt Conference honors.
Chemweno is the lone Lady Topper returner from last year's 16th-place Southeast Region team and looks to extend her career to one last race at the NCAA Championships.
The women's gun will go off at 11 AM (CT) and the course run will be 6,000-meters. The top 25 finishers in the race earn All-Southeast Region honors while NCAA Championship qualifiers are selected based off times ran.
The NCAA Cross Country Championships will take place on Nov. 17 at Tom Sawyer Park in Louisville, Ky.
