BOWLING GREEN, Ky. -- The WKU men's basketball team opened preseason practice for the 2012-13 season Saturday morning, going through 90 minutes of mainly defensive-related drills looking to build on a conference tournament championship and trip to the NCAA Tournament last March.
In the first of two practices on Saturday, the Hilltoppers worked on numerous defensive drills in the half-court, and the squad maintained a good energy and focus throughout.
"It was a good tone-setter this morning," head coach Ray Harper said. "It was nothing but defense this morning, and we will come back and try to clean up some offensive things this afternoon. I thought the intensity and focus was good. We had a lot of guys who stepped up and had good, tone-setting practices.
"I wanted guys to know how hard we are going to work. When you cross the lines it is a business, and we are going to work."
Following the kickoff to basketball season at WKU with Hilltopper Hysteria Friday night, the team will go through two weeks of practices before hosting Campbellsville (Ky.) in an exhibition game on Monday, October 29.
Season tickets for the 2012-13 season are on sale now and can be purchased by calling the WKU Ticket Office at 1-800-5-BIG RED or 745-5222 locally.
