BOWLING GREEN, Ky. - On Saturday, September 10th the WKU Softball Team had an awesome time working with the Special Olympics. The team helped conduct the softball team skills competition held in conjunction with their annual tournament. The players manned stations that focused on fielding, throwing, baserunning and hitting. They served as announcers, scorekeepers and on-field skill volunteers. The highlight of the day was handing out medals at the awards ceremony.
"Working the Special Olympics was a great opportunity," said sophomore pitcher Brittani Albright. "Getting to know each individual as they competed for the gold was a blessing. Seeing them so focused and determined inspired me as an athlete."
"I was truly and literally blessed to get the opportunity to show my support at the Special Olympics," added freshman infielder Samantha McGraw. "My job was to make sure everyone touched second base, and while I was standing there, I started sneezing uncontrollably. One of the fine young men was in the middle of running the bases when he took the time to say, 'Bless you'".
