BURLINGTON, N.C. - Former WKU pitcher Matt Ridings took a perfect game bid into the sixth inning Thursday night against the Greeneville Astros. Ridings threw five perfect innings to open the game and earned his third win of the season after allowing two hits in six innings of work.
In the top of the sixth, after retiring the first 15 batters of the game, Ridings allowed a single to Darwin Rivera. Ridings did not allow a walk through six shutout innings and recorded six strikeouts.
Ridings put together such a strong performance after having three straight starts where he allowed at least three earned runs.
The Burlington Royals went on to win over Greeneville 7-2, snapping a three-game losing streak.
On the season, Ridings is 3-4 with a 3.75 ERA and 55 strikeouts in 62.1 innings pitched. The Tennessee native has made 13 starts, allowing only nine walks and limiting opponents to a .241 batting average.
