Lafayette, La. - The Lady Topper softball team (26-25, 7-14 SBC) closed-out the Sun Belt Conference against Louisiana-Lafayette (42-9, 16-5 SBC) with a 10-0 loss Sunday afternoon.
In the game the Lady Toppers tallied one hit giving up 10 runs off 10 hits. WKU left two runners stranded, striking out four times. Sophomore Katrina Metoyer tallied the lone run for the Lady Toppers with a single in the top of the third. Sophomore Mallorie Sulaski pitched 1.1 innings giving up five runs off seven hits, her record falls to 11-9 on the season. Freshman Brittanie Albright pitched the remaining 2.2 innings allowing five runs off three hits, striking out three ULL batters.
Louisiana-Lafayette opened the game in the bottom of the first inning with three runs off five hits, leaving two on base. With one out, two singles and a double brought one run in. A ground-out and a single to center field brought two more runs in for a 3-0 lead over WKU. ULL added two more runs in the bottom of the second inning off two hits. A walk, a single and a double to right center field brought two more runs for the fifth run of the game.
In the top of the third inning the Lady Toppers left one runner on base with their only hit of the game. With one out, Metoyer single down the left field line and advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt by freshman Kelsie Mattox. Metoyer was left stranded on a ground-out.
The Ragin' Cajuns added five more runs in the bottom of the fourth off three hits. A double and advanced to third on a wild pitch, a walk and an error brought one run in. With a runner on first and second a home run to right field brought three more runs in. An inside the park home run to right field brought the final run in of the game.
The Lady Toppers (26-25, 7-14 SBC) will continue their road trip to Murfreesboro, Tenn., in a single Sun Belt Conference game against Middle Tennessee at 6 p.m.
