Troy, Ala. - The Lady Topper softball team (21-20, 3-9 SBC) fell to the Trojans Sunday afternoon in a 9-0 shutout after six innings at the Troy Softball Complex.
The Lady Toppers tallied four hits leaving five runners stranded. The Trojans out-hit the Lady Toppers 10-4 in the final game of the series. Sophomore Kim Wagner pitched 4.1 innings allowing five runs off seven hits, striking out one batter and walking six. Freshman Brittanie Albright pitched one inning allowing four runs off three hits, walking two. Junior Laura Smith tallied two hits, sophomore Mallorie Sulaski had one hit and junior Amanda Walden had one hit.
WKU left one runner on base in the top of the first with a single to right field by junior Laura Smith.
Troy opened the game in the bottom of the first inning with two runs off two hits, leaving three runners on base. With a walk, Troy hit a home run to center field for the first two runs of the game. The Trojans added two more runs in the bottom of the third inning off two hits, leaving three runners stranded again. Troy opened with a single to center field and advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt. Runners on first and second followed by a single to left field loaded the bases. A walk brought one run in followed by a sacrifice fly bringing the fourth run in of the game.

The Trojans added three more runs in the bottom of the fifth inning off two hits. Troy opened with a double down the left field line followed by a walk and a triple down the left field line for two runs. An illegal pitch brought the third run in.
In the top of the sixth inning the Lady Toppers left one runner stranded off a single to left center by Smith.
Troy closed-out the game in the bottom of the sixth inning with two runs off two hits. A single followed by a home run to right center brought the two runs in for a 9-0 shut-out over the Lady Toppers.
The Lady Toppers (21-20, 3-9 SBC) will continue their road trip next weekend in Miami, Fla., against FIU in a three-game Sun Belt Conference series. Game times Saturday at 3 and 5 p.m., and Sunday at 11 a.m.
