Bowling Green, Ky. - Lady Topper sophomore Kim Wagner was named 2011 Buzz Classic Most Valuable Player, today after the completion of the tournament in Woodstock, Ga. over the weekend.
Wagner finished the weekend starting in all three games for the Lady Toppers pitching in two. She went five-for-nine at the plate with four runs and five RBI's for a .556 batting average. Wagner tallied three home runs over the weekend, with a career-high two home runs in the opening game against Rhode Island. Also in the opening game, she posted a season-high game with two runs and three RBI's. She tallied a 1.556 slugging percentage and a .667 on base percentage in the three games.
Pitching for the Lady Toppers in two games for a 13 complete innings, Wagner finished with a 1.62 ERA. She went 2-0 on the weekend allowing just three runs off six hits, striking out 13 batters. In the final game against Rhode Island she allowed just two runs off two hits while striking out nine batters. She allowed just one run off four hits against UNC Greensboro, striking out four batters. Wagner improved her record to 5-2 on the season.
The Lady Toppers (11-5) will host Southern Illinois Edwardsville in a doubleheader at 1 and 3 p.m. tomorrow at the WKU Softball Complex.
