BOWLING GREEN, KY. - The Western Kentucky University softball team hosted its first Topper Fall Classic on Saturday, October 1 at the WKU Softball Complex. The Lady Toppers took on not only Alabama and Murray State, but the cause of collecting canned goods for those in need.
"Thanks to a great effort from our fans, we collected 210 cans for the North American Food Drive," said head coach Tyra Perry.
"I love that WKU softball participated in the food drive," added sophomore pitcher Brittanie Albright. "I think everyone should be a part of this. Helping out people in the community is truly special and meaningful."
The Lady Toppers play a pair of games on Thursday at Tennessee. WKU will play Chattanooga State at 1 p.m. before a 3:30 p.m. game against the homestanding Lady Vols. On October 15, WKU will host the Topper Fall Classic II. The Lady Toppers will play Campbellsville that day at 1 and 5 p.m., as well as Volunteer State at 3 p.m. The Topper Fall Classic II will be the Lady Toppers' Breast Cancer Awareness game with the team taking up donations for the Susan G. Koman for the Cure Foundation.
