The match marked the fifth contest between the two teams as the Lady Toppers still hold the advantage 3-0-2. The match was the second time the Lady Toppers traveled to Richmond since 2008 where they ended the match in a 1-1 tie then as well.
WKU opened the match with a shot in the first minute ending high over the net. The Lady Toppers posted three shots on goal in the first 10 minutes of the match as Eastern Kentucky only put one on goal. Controlling the ball, WKU tallied the first goal of the match in the 27th minute of action. The goal scored by junior Kaylyn Pratt was deflected by EKU goalkeeper, falling into the bottom left of the goal, Pratt's first goal of the season assisted by freshman Chelsea Smith, her first assist.
A short eight minutes later, WKU allowed the Colonels to get on the board and knot the game at 1-1. Eastern Kentucky scored their first goal of the match at 36:13 from 22 yards out, over the head of WKU goalkeeper Libby Stout. Lady Topper Courtney Rymer tallied one shot on goal in the final three minutes of the half, saved by EKU's goalkeeper.
The Lady Toppers had five corner kick opportunities in the first half, three of them coming right after the first goal scored. WKU outshot the Colonels 11-3, with seven shots on goal.
With the match knotted at 1-1 the Lady Toppers opened the second half with the first shots, a shot by Lindsey Goad followed by a shot on goal by Shannon Boone in the first five minutes of the second half. The two teams battled back-and-forth in the second half as the Lady Toppers tallied six shots with three on goal. The Colonels also had six shots in the second half with four on goal.
Unable to finish the match in two periods, the Lady Toppers entered the first overtime period in hopes of breaking the knotted match. WKU posted one shot in the first overtime period going wide by Kelsey Meyer. The Lady Toppers didn't allow the Colonels to have an opportunity for a shot.
In the final overtime period WKU had two opportunities as they posted two shots. The first shot by Torrie Lange went high followed by a shot two minutes later by Laura Ray ended wide. Eastern Kentucky was only able to post one shot in the final period that went wide.
The Lady Toppers outshot the Colonels 20-10 as WKU posted 10 shots on goal. Boone and Mallory Outerbridge both tallied three shots with two on goal. Pratt had two shots on goal scoring one goal for her first two points of the season. Smith posted one shot on goal, earning an assist on Pratt's goal for her first point of the season. WKU had nine corner kick opportunities in the match.
WKU goalkeeper Libby Stout battled the complete 110-minute match making four tough saves allowing one Colonel goal. Stout now sits with a record of 0-2-2 in 2010.
