Eugene, Oregon - The Western Kentucky University women's 4x100-meter relay team placed 20th in the semifinals Wednesday on the first day of the NCAA finals at Oregon's historic Hayward Field.
The WKU team of Miaie Williams, Kellie Morrison, Sharika Smith, and Samantha Smith clocked a time of 45.59, defeating Alabama, Virginia Tech, Stanford and Georgetown.
This race marks the end of the careers of Williams, Morrison, and Samantha Smith in a Lady Topper uniform. In this trio's time on the Hill, the women's track and field program at WKU have been undefeated in Sun Belt Conference competition, winning both the indoor and outdoor crowns in each of the past five years.
On Thursday, the men's 4x400-meter relay team of Kendall Gregory, Ennis Jones, Gavin Smellie and Terrill McCombs will take to the track in semifinal competition, while Patrick Cheptoek will compete in the finals of the 10,000 meters.
