Miami, Fla. - The WKU Lady Toppers battled FIU Friday evening dropping the contest 2-4. WKU falls to 5-5-2 overall and 3-2 in the Sun Belt Conference.
The match marked the 11th contest between the two teams and the fourth loss to the Golden Panthers in WKU history, now holding a record of 6-4-1 against FIU.
After a scoreless first half the second half brought six goals, with the Lady Toppers falling short by two. FIU outshot the Lady Toppers 16-8. Leading the Lady Toppers with two goals was junior forward Mallory Outerbridge tallying four points in the match. Outerbridge tallied four shots on goal as sophomore Sydney Sisler posted three shots with one on goal. Junior goalkeeper Libby Stout posted six saves in the match.
The first half FIU tallied the first two shots of the match before WKU posted their first shot 19 minutes into the match. The Lady Toppers tallied two shots in the first half both from Sisler. FIU tallied four shots in the first half with one corner kick.
WKU posted the first goal of the match four minutes into the second half as Outerbridge tallied her fifth goal of the season off a penalty kick. Seven minutes later FIU knotted the match 1-1 with their first goal by Katrina Rose off a long ball. In the 76th-minute of the match FIU took the lead capitalizing on a corner kick opportunity as Kassandra Sorzano tallied a goal off a header. Six minutes later the Lady Toppers battled back tying the game 2-2 as Outerbridge posted her second goal of the game and sixth of the season as she drilled it high into the right corner of the net.
FIU took the lead and finished the match with two goals in the last eight minutes of the match by Katrina Rose and Chelsea Leiva.
WKU goalkeeper Libby Stout battled the complete 90-minute match making six saves, two in the first half and four in the second. Stout now sits with a record of 4-4-2.
