Boca Raton, Fla. - The WKU Lady Toppers grabbed their fourth conference win Sunday afternoon defeating FAU 1-0 in Boca Raton, Fla. WKU improves their record to 6-5-2 overall and 4-2 in the Sun Belt Conference.
The match marked the sixth contest between the two teams and the second straight victory over FAU. The Lady Toppers now hold an advantage of 3-2-1 over FAU. The match is also the first victory in Florida for the Lady Toppers since 2006.
Lady Topper freshman Katrina Ott scored the goal for WKU earning her first goal of the season in the match. The assist came from junior Lindsay Williams for her second assist of the season. WKU outshot FAU 20-6 with nine shots on goal as FAU posted only one shot on goal. Others posting shots for the Lady Toppers were sophomore Laura Ray with four shots and one on goal, while Williams had three shots with two on goal. Junior goalkeeper Libby Stout tallied her fifth shutout of the season and 26th career shutout.
WKU opened the match strong with a shot on goal in the first five minutes and a cornerkick opportunity. The Lady Toppers tallied four shots on goal in the opening 30 minutes before taking a 1-0 lead. In the 37th-minute WKU took advantage of a cornerkick opportunity as Williams, with the cornerkick, placed it in front of the box finding Ott who punched it in for the goal. FAU tallied three shots in the first half.
The Lady Toppers held FAU to a scoreless second half as WKU posted 12 shots with four on goal in the second half. FAU was held to three shots and one on goal. WKU had seven cornerkick opportunities while FAU had one.
WKU goalkeeper Libby Stout battled the complete 90-minute match making one save. Stout improves her record to 5-4-2 with five shutouts this season and 26 career shutouts. The win also marks Stout's 30th career victory at WKU.
