BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – Perfect Game Crosschecker named Hilltopper sophomore Kes Carter the 19th-best prospect in the Coastal Plain League, one of the nation’s premiere collegiate summer baseball leagues.
Carter, who played for the Peninsula Pilots in the Carolina- and Virginia-based league, finished the summer with a .272 batting average, seven doubles, two triples, 22 RBI and 14 stolen bases. His outfield arm caused base runners to think twice about advancing an extra base, as he recorded five outfield assists on the season.
Perfect Game Crosschecker named Carter to their list of the top 30 prospects in the Coastal Plain League based on what many consider to be a plus-arm in the outfield, gap power and above-average speed. Two of Carter’s Pilot teammates were also named to the top prospect list, with Will Lamb topping the list at number one and Jake McAloose checking in at number 16.
Carter spent the summer playing alongside Hilltopper teammates Matt Payton and Logan Robbins. The trio helped the Pilots 35-21 record, best in the CPL North Division. The Pilots advanced to the championship round of the playoffs, before falling to the Forest City Owls in the best-of-three series.
Following the spring collegiate season many players compete in various summer leagues around the nation, and the Coastal Plain League is regarded as one of the top leagues in terms of competition, developing players for their college careers and producing professional baseball players.
