BOWLING GREEN, Ky. - For the second consecutive year, the Lady Toppers made an impact in the lives of some very deserving children in the Bowling Green area by volunteering at the Wee Care Daycare Center and the Special Olympics.
At the Wee Care Daycare Center, the Lady Toppers spent the day playing with the children while also making crafts and toys with them. The center was created to assist single-parent homes, parents that are in school and for children that need attention due to abuse and neglect. The team also took time to volunteer with the Special Olympics. There, the team and coaches spent time with the children and helped instruct them on softball skills and coach them in various softball drills.
"We always enjoy volunteering in the Bowling Green community and we had a great experience at the Wee Care Daycare Center and with the Special Olympics this year ," head coach Tyra Perry said. "We believe that giving back is one of the most important things you can do and each year we try to reach out to the children of this community and hopefully make a positive impact in their lives."
The Lady Toppers have participated in numerous community service activities under Perry. In addition to volunteering at the Wee Care Daycare Center and with the Special Olympics, the team has hosted a breast cancer awareness day, participated in the Bowl for Kid's Sake and with the Big Brothers and Big Sisters organization.
