Bowling Green, Ky. — Dana Nathanson, a sophomore transfer from Midland Junior College, will join the 2009-10 WKU softball team, head coach Tyra Perry announced today.
"I have always had the game of softball in my heart," Nathanson said. Since I was nine, I have wanted to play softball at the Division I level and I always looked up to the athletes that competed in that division. "It is such a blessing to now be one of those players. This opportunity came quickly and unexpectedly for me. After talking to Coach Perry, I knew that I should check it out. She made me feel so comfortable. The team and everyone else that I met on campus were so welcoming. I am so excited to play against great competition at the Division I level and to also learn more as a student of the game. I am very excited to experience something new and become a Lady Topper."
"We are excited that Dana has decided to become a Lady Topper," Perry said. "She comes from a very competitive junior college program and will bring experience to our pitching staff."
Nathanson finished her career at Midland Junior College with a 1.77 ERA. On the field, she was the winning pitcher in the WJCAC Regional Semifinals and also picked up three wins in the Central Arizona Tournament. In addition, she was awarded an academic achievement award during her career at Midland.
A graduate of Flower Mound High School in Flower Mound, Texas, she was named the 2008 Lady Jaguar of the Year while also finishing her high school career with a 0.85 ERA. She also competed on the Ft. Worth Batbusters team where she helped lead the team to the gold in the 2009 USSSA 18 and under Major State Championships.
The Lady Toppers finished the 2009 season with a 35-19 record and will welcome nine newcomers to the 2000-10 team.
