Bowling Green, Ky. Just two weeks after the Lady Toppers' completed their best finish in school history, head coach Tyra Perry announced that the WKU softball team would welcome two more newcomers for the 2009-10 season. Joining the 2009 Lady Topper team are Casey Clark and Katie Pfost.
Clark will join the Lady Toppers after graduating from Prattville High School in Prattville, Ala. A four year letterwinner, Clark was named to the North/South All-Star Team, the Most Valuable Player for the South team and to the 6A All-Metro Team. She was also awarded the 2008 Spirit Award for the Lady Lions team and was recently invited to play for America's Team International in Italy for July 2009, which is a team that represents Prattville High School, the Prattville community and the country.
She began playing softball at the age of eight and has played on travel teams since the age of 12. Last year, she played with the Bama Gold 16 and under team that qualified for Nationals in Owensboro, Ky.
"I have always wanted to play softball at the collegiate level," Clark said. "After attending a softball camp at Western Kentucky University this summer, I really wanted to become a Hilltopper. Coach Perry and her staff were very impressive. Not only do they work hard, but they have fun too. I look forward to attending WKU and becoming a part of a great program."
Pfost, a pitcher, comes to the Hill after graduating from Ballard High School in Louisville, Ky. A two year starter, she was named All-Region in 2008 and 2009 and the Most Valuable Player her sophomore and junior years. This season, she pitched 17 scoreless games to begin the season and has played in the USSSA World Series with the Louisville Diamonds two years. A four year letterwinner for the Bruins, she also lettered in basketball and was named the Most Improved during her career.
Clark and Pfost will join six other newcomers on the 2009-10 team. The Lady Toppers finished the 2009 season with a 35-19 overall record and a third place finish in the Sun Belt Conference.
