BOWLING GREEN, Ky. - In order to give back to the Bowling Green and WKU communities, the WKU softball team visited Warren County Elementary School and participated in various reading activities with the students.
During the months of November and early December, the Lady Toppers and coaches spent time with the students in Ineta Horn's class at Warren County Elementary School and listened as the students read books in order to prepare for their AR reading tests.
"I really enjoyed working with the kids," assistant coach Bonnie Bynum said. The teacher had them read to us, instead of us reading to them, and I feel that it was a more interactive experience. All of our girls had a great time."
Earlier this year, the team visited the Wee Care Daycare Center where they interacted and played with the children. The center was created to assist single-parent homes, parents that are in school and for children that need special attention due to abuse and neglect. They also took part in the Kentucky Special Olympics where they helped instruct the young athletes on softball skills. In addition, the Lady Toppers have hosted a Breast Cancer Awareness Day and participated in the Bowl for Kid's Sake event that is hosted by the Big Brothers and Big Sisters organization.
