Bowling Green, Ky. - The Western Kentucky University softball team made an impact in the lives of some very special children after participating in a community service project at the Wee Care Child Care Center earlier this year. The team and coaches spent the day interacting with children at the center. The center was created to assist single-parent homes, parents that are in school, and children that need attention due to abuse and other neglect.
During the day, the athletes played with the children while also making crafts and toys. "Community service gives us a chance to go outside of ourselves and focus on others," head coach Tyra Perry said. "Our visit to Wee Care gave the players a chance to interact with some of the most extraordinary children in Bowling Green. The team threw a holiday party for the Wee Care kids. The kids were full of energy and we all had a great experience."
The WKU softball team particpates in many community service projects throughout the year. This season, the team has already held a Breast Cancer Awareness day and will host a clinic for teams involved in the Kentucky Special Olympics and will host a Big Brothers and Big Sisters Day later this season.
