Bowling Green, Ky. The WKU softball team will be hosting Breast Cancer Awareness day on Friday, Oct. 4 in order to promote and support Breast Cancer research during Breast Cancer Awareness Month. During both games that day, the team will be wearing pink jerseys and will be collecting donations at both games that will be given to the Susan G. Koman center for breast cancer research.
"Breast cancer is a serious condition that affects the lives of many people everyday," head coach Tyra Perry said. "We have athletes on this team that have been directly affected by this disease in their families and we want to honor those individuals in the best way possible. We have to do our part to further research for this serious disease and I, along with the team, hope that members of the Bowling Green community will stand with us in our fight against breast cancer and contribute to this cause."
On Friday, the Lady Toppers will battle Volunteer State Community College at 3 p.m. CDT in the first of two games devoted to breast cancer research. Later that night, WKU will conclude the day with a game against Kentucky Wesleyan at 7 p.m. The Topper Fall Classic kicks off on Thursday at 5 p.m. when the Lady Toppers hit the diamond against Lindsey Wilson at 5 p.m. Fans are encouraged to show their support for the Lady Toppers and breast cancer research by wearing pink on Friday.
