On Friday evening, Terrill McCombs ran a NCAA regional-qualifying time of 21.30 seconds in the 200-meter dash to finish fourth. The Upper Marlboro, Md., native also ran on the winning 4x400-meter relay team along with Romain McKay, Steve Wilson, and Alexander Larin, clocking a time of 3:11.92. In other relay action, the men's 4x100-meter relay of Derrius Brooks, McCombs, Mandhla Mgijima, and Larin finished third in a time of 41.14 seconds.
Leading the Lady Toppers was Natalie Leeper, who took runner-up honors in the 3,000-meter steeplechase in a time of 10:52.06. In the 400-meter dash, Alecia Brown was fifth in 55.12, while Valerie Brown took eighth in the 200 meters with a time of 24.02. In the women's 4x100-meter relay, the quartet of Miaie Williams, Valerie Brown, Kellie Morrison, and Alecia Brown took third in a time of 46.42 seconds. To round out the top-eight finishes for the WKU women, Jessica Delaunay took fourth-place honors in the triple jump with a mark of 39-8.75.
In the men's field events, Brian Soverns recorded a trio of top-eight finishes, with a fifth-place toss in the javelin (168-10), sixth in the shot put (52-6.75), and eighth in the discus (145-5). Meanwhile, teammate Matt Taitt recorded a fifth in the discus (152-9) and seventh in the hammer (174-9). Tying for fourth place in the high jump was Jeremy Evans, who successfully cleared 6-2.75 before inclement weather forced a postponement of the event.
Head Coach Erik Jenkins' teams will run a split squad again next weekend, with athletes competing a the Drake Relays and Stan Lyons Invitational.
