Bowling Green, Ky. The Western Kentucky University softball team will welcome six new members to the 2010 team, head coach Tyra Perry announced today. Karavin Dew, Ciara Garcia, Katrina Metoyer, Mallorie Sulaski, Shelby Taylor and Kimberly Wagner will head to the Hill and become the newest members of the Lady Topper squad.
Taylor, a native of Louisville, Ky., will join the Lady Toppers after graduating from Eastern High School. As a member of the Eagles' team, Taylor picked up three honors in 2008 including being named to the All-Region team, the 28th District All Tournament team and was selected as a member of the West Junior All-Star team that competed in the East vs. West All-Star game. In 2008, she led the team in batting average posting a .459 average.
"Shelby Taylor is an all-around athlete," Perry said. "She has unlimited potential in the outfield and at the plate. Shelby is also an outstanding student and I am happy she has chosen to join our program."
"By providing me with the opportunity to play Division I college softball, Coach Perry has made my dreams a reality," Taylor said. "I’m excited for what lies ahead and anxious to get started. WKU is a great university with outstanding athletic programs that are on the rise and rich tradition. I feel that the philosophies of the coaching staff and the program are a perfect match, and I can’t wait to contribute to the team and play softball for WKU and Coach Perry, Jenkins, and Bynum."
