Bowling Green, Ky. The Western Kentucky University softball team will welcome six new members to the 2010 team, head coach Tyra Perry announced today. Karavin Dew, Ciara Garcia, Katrina Metoyer, Mallorie Sulaski, Shelby Taylor and Kimberly Wagner will head to the Hill and become the newest members of the Lady Topper squad.
Wagner, a D'Iberville High School product, is a six-time All-District honoree that was named the team MVP two times and picked up the coveted For the Love of the Game award. She also was named to the All-South Mississippi Sun Herald team for two years and was selected as a second team All-State selection by the Clarion Ledger for two seasons. She also received the best defensive player award while at D'Iberville and competed on the travel team, the Louisiana Voodoo.
"Kimberly is a finesse pitcher that can move the ball and change speeds on a dime," Perry said. "She also swings a solid stick and can play in the outfield. Kimberly is a hard worker and she has what it takes to be a key player on the Hill."
"People keep asking me why I chose to attend WKU and the answer is because WKU is an amazing place," Wagner said. "The campus is beautiful and everyone is so welcoming. My coaches are great people and I am excited to learn, not only softball from the, but also the things that I will face in life. I believe that my time at WKU will be a most wonderful experience and I am truly looking forward to it."
The 2009 WKU softball season kicks off on Saturday, Feb. 7 when the Lady Toppers travel to Hattiesburg, Miss. to take part in the Southern Miss Tournament. WKU will face Central Arkansas, Arkansas and Samford in the tournament.
