Bowling Green, Ky. The Western Kentucky University softball team will welcome six new members to the 2010 team, head coach Tyra Perry announced today. Karavin Dew, Ciara Garcia, Katrina Metoyer, Mallorie Sulaski, Shelby Taylor and Kimberly Wagner will head to the Hill and become the newest members of the Lady Topper squad.
Metoyer attended Los Alamitos High School in Los Alamitos, Calif. Her travel team, the OC Batbusters, has won nine ASA 18 and under National Championships since 1983 and she finished her junior season with the second most steals in the league. Additionally, Metyoer received honorable mention as a Sunset league player after both her sophomore and junior seasons and was on a Batbusters' team that finished second in the 18 and under Nationals her first year.
"Katrina was a key player for her high school program and the 18U Batbusters travel team," Perry said. "She has "big game" experience and will bring much needed speed to our line-up."
"I couldn't be more excited to join WKU softball next fall," Metoyer said. "I've always wanted to play college softball but I didn't know where. After discovering Western Kentucky University, I knew it was the perfect fit for me. I know Coach Perry, Coach Jenkins and Coach Bynum will work me and push me to be a better athlete. The campus is also beautfiful and the people are incredibly nice. I'm looking forward to being a Lady Topper."
