Bowling Green, Ky. The Western Kentucky University softball team will welcome six new members to the 2010 team, head coach Tyra Perry announced today. Karavin Dew, Ciara Garcia, Katrina Metoyer, Mallorie Sulaski, Shelby Taylor and Kimberly Wagner will head to the Hill and become the newest members of the Lady Topper squad.
Dew, a Calhoun, Ga., native, will graduate from Calhoun High School in 2009. The two-time All-State selection was named to the All-Area team three times, the 2005 All-Region team and was the 2005 Co-Rookie of the Year. In addition, Dew was named to the 2006 Chattanooga Times Free Press All-North Georgia Team and received the 2006 Coaches Award. In 2007, she received the defense award and was named the All-Area Co-Player of the Year.
On the ASA travel ball team, the Alanta Vipers, Dew was honored by being selected as the recepient of the Stepanie Phillips award for Leadership skills and was a vital part of the ASA team that finished as the 2004 National Runner-Up and State Runner-Up and also claimed state championships in 2006 and 2007. In 2006, 2007 and 2008, Dew also competed in nationals. Dew was also a part of the very successful ISA travel team that claimed fifth place in the world championships and were the 2005 State runner-up.
"Karavin is a very talented player that will bring a great mix of quickness and power to our program," Perry said. "She is a person of character and is a natural leader. We expect great things from Karavin as a Hilltopper."
"It really is a dream come true for me to attend WKU because I have always wanted to play softball at the collegiate level," Dew said. "It is really hard to put into words how excited I am to be a part of the Western Kentucky University softball program. My decision to come to WKU, was in large part due to Coach Perry, and I made my decision after meeting and talking to her about the program and academics."
