Bowling Green, Ky. The Western Kentucky University softball team will welcome six new members to the 2010 team, head coach Tyra Perry announced today. Karavin Dew, Ciara Garcia, Katrina Metoyer, Mallorie Sulaski, Shelby Taylor and Kimberly Wagner will head to the Hill and become the newest members of the Lady Topper squad.
Garcia, from Harvest, Ala., is a two-time Super Softball All-Metro Team selection and a member of the 2008 North vs. South All-star team. Garcia was selected to the 2007 All-State Tournament Team and was a member of the Sparkman High School team that claimed the 2007 and 2008 6A Area Championship, the 2006 Alabama State Championship, the 2007 Alabama Runner-Up title and were the 2006 Regional Champions.
A member of the Alabama Crusader travel team, Garcia helped lead the team to a championship in the 2008 NSA Alabama State game and the 2008 Huntsville Sparks Tournament.
"Ciara is one of the most disciplined players I have ever seen," Perry stated. "She puts everything she has into helping her team win. She can play firstbase and also play in the outfield. She is a natural lefty that swings right."
"It has always been a dream of mine to play college softball," Garcia said. "When I first met Coach Perry I never knew she would be my head coach someday; but here we are and I’m thrilled to have her as my coach. I haven’t learned many of her coaching ideas yet, but the ones I have learned, I completely agree with. I know she will push me to a higher level and I am very excited to play on her team and be coached by her and Coach Bynum and Coach Jenkins."
