Bowling Green, Ky. The WKU softball team is proud to announce that Jessica Sallinger, a professional softball player and pitcher with the Chicago Bandits, will be the featured guest instructor at the WKU Topper Pitcher/Catcher and Offensive Skills Clinics that will be held on November 15. The Georgia Tech Alumna will be on the Hill for the camp that is open to girls eight through high school seniors and will use her career experiences to instruct young softball players on all areas of the game.
In Chicago, Sallinger was vital to the team's success finishing the 2008 regular season with 12 wins, six losses and three saves for an overall ERA of 2.39. In 120 innings, the Kennesaw, Georgia native, only allowed 81 hits and 41 earned runs while striking out 107 batters. In addition, Sallinger faced 431 batters while only giving up seven doubles, four triples and 14 homeruns.
During the postseason, Sallinger was perfect posting a 2-0 record and racking up one save. While leading all Bandit pitchers in numerous categories, Sallinger secured the first two wins in the post season for the Bandits against the New England Riptide and the Philadelphia Force. Additionally, she led the Bandits to the championship coming in and securing the save against the defending NPF champions, the Washington Glory.
2007 was also a spectacular year for Sallinger as she completed the year with a 9-6 record and a dominating 1.34 ERA in 104.1 innings pitched. She led the Bandits in all pitching categories while also starting 13 games and completing seven of them. During the season, she notched 78 strikeouts and was named to the NPF All-Star Team.
A standout at Georgia Tech, Sallinger racked up numerous honors in three years and was named a third-team All-American her senior year. She was also named All-ACC Pitcher of the Year her junior and senior year. The three-time All-Southeast Regional honoree and 2005 ACC Tournament MVP, leads the ACC in strikeouts with 1,398 and is the winningest pitcher in ACC history. She ended her career at Georgia Tech, ranked fourth nationally in all-time strikeouts, tenth in strikeouts per game with 9.7 and tied at 18th with USA Olympic softball player Jennie Finch in wins with 109. Sallinger also holds the Georgia Tech record in seven different categories including ERA and shutouts.
The clinic will take place on Saturday, November 15 from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. The pitcher/catcher clinic will take place from 8:30 a.m. until noon with the offensive skills clinic scheduled to begin at 12:30 p.m. For more information and for an application, visit www.wkusports.com.
