Bowling Green, Ky. The WKU softball team continued their winning ways in game two of the Topper Fall Classic defeating Volunteer State Community College 11-2 in five innings. The Lady Toppers, who extend their fall season record to 6-1, got behind early but rebounded from their slow start to capture the impressive win.
In the first, Volunteer State Community College jumped out to an early 2-0 lead after three early hits. But, the Lady Toppers responded in the bottom of the inning getting on board after junior Kelsey McCauley scored off a hit by junior Lindsay Antone.
Senior pitcher Jennifer Kempf went the rest of the way nearly perfect allowing only one hit after the first inning. In the fourth inning, the Lady Toppers added two more runs and dominated the plate in the fifth inning racking up eight runs off five hits including one triple by junior Brooke Reed.
Offensively for WKU, four Lady Toppers finished with two hits for a total of 11 hits during the game. Volunteer State was limited to only four hits in the game.
The Lady Toppers conclude the Topper Fall Classic tonight at 7 p.m. CDT against Kentucky Wesleyan.
