The women’s basketball team has already been announced and now it is time to unveil the 15 Hilltopper standouts who were selected — by popular vote of WKU fans — for berths on the WKU All-Time Centennial Men’s Basketball Team.
All 77 nominees on the ballot received votes and an additional 34 attracted attention, winning write-in votes. Included on the team are 10 Topper All-Americans, seven conference players-of-the-year and 12 1,000-point scorers. The Honorary Captain is leading vote-getter Clem Haskins (’65-67).
Here’s a rundown (in alphabetical order) of the former Hilltoppers — some of the greatest men’s basketball athletes in school history along with some of the most popular who wore the Red and White — on the honor squad:
• Johnny Britt (’73-76) — All-American, all-Ohio Valley Conference, OVC Player of the Year; 103 games, 1,765 points (17.1 ppg), 639 rebounds (6.2 rpg), 271 assists
• Ralph Crosthwaite (’55, ’57-59) — All-American, all-OVC; 103 games, 2,076 points (20.2 ppg), 1,309 rebounds (12.7 rpg), 58.2% FG
• Tellis Frank (’84-87) — All-American, all-Sun Belt Conference, SBC Player of the Year, SBC 30th Anniversary Team; 122 games (79 starts), 1,323 points (10.8 ppg), 664 rebounds (5.4 rpg), 187 assists, 99 steals
• Clarence Glover (’69-71) — 80 games; 555 points (6.9 ppg), 686 rebounds (8.6 rpg), 99 assists
