The Hilltoppers dropped a 7-0 decision to UW in the first game of the day, then picked up a 2-1 win over MVSU.
After going hitless for the first three innings, the 11th-ranked Huskies took advantage of a four-run fourth and never looked back. They went on to score two runs in the fifth inning and one in the sixth for the seven-run victory.
Alicia Matthews' double to right-center in the top of the fourth scored two to put UW up 4-0. Sarah Hyatt paced the Huskies with two hits in three plate appearances, also chipping in two RBI.
Bailey Rolfs led WKU with two of the team's three hits.
Adrienne Lathrop recorded six strikeouts and gave up eight hits in 7.0 innings. Danielle Lawrie (4-0) struck out nine Hilltopper batters in her complete-game performance.
WKU battled with MVSU later in the evening as freshman Jennifer Kempf tallied her second win of the season from the circle. Kempf kept the Devilettes' bats cool and surrendered only three hits and one run in 7.0 innings. She was aided by Rolfs' fifth-inning homerun that also scored Renikka Toliver. Rolfs had two RBI for the Hilltoppers, and Rebecca Horesky added a double and one single.
MVSU's lone run was scored by Balencia Young, who advanced home after a passed ball in the sixth inning.
Saturday's 11:15 a.m. (CST) game with Eastern Michigan will be followed by a 1:30 p.m. matchup with host Louisiana State.
