Head coach Rachel Lawson and her squad will open Saturday, Sept. 24, at Louisville’s tournament with games against Eastern Kentucky and Louisville. The Toppers will then face Morehead State on Sunday.
The team will travel to Eastern Kentucky for the Battle Against Breast Cancer Tournament on Oct. 1. Western is slated to take on Morehead State and Northern Kentucky from the 14-team field. The Toppers visit Kentucky in a doubleheader on Oct. 2 in Lexington to close out the fall season. Last spring, WKU split its doubleheaders with Eastern and Kentucky.
Western is coming off a 2005 season in which it compiled an overall record of 33-24 (12-8 SBC) while finishing runner-up in the Sun Belt Conference tournament. The team returns twelve players from last season’s roster, including eight starters and first team all-conference shortstop Bailey Rolfs. The Toppers have added eight newcomers to the the roster.
“We’re really looking forward to playing and getting things started” said Lawson. “The upperclassmen are excited to see what their new teammates will bring to the program.”
