Ransdell enters the 2005 Aeropostale Sun Belt Conference Tournament as Western’s leading hitter at .357. He has started all 55 games for the Hilltoppers, and leads the Sun Belt with 84 hits. Ransdell collected 43 of his hits in conference games, and hit .417 against the league — the third-best average of any player in the Sun Belt. The Bowling Green native has also driven in 40 runs on the season. Earlier this year, Ransdell put together a 16-game hit streak — the 12th longest streak in Western history.
Florida International’s Yahmed Yema took home 2005 player-of-the-year honors, while Louisiana-Lafayette’s Austin Faught was named the league’s top pitcher. The Ragin’ Cajuns put nine on the all-conference first and second teams.
Ransdell and the Hilltoppers open play in the conference tournament on Wednesday at 5:30 p.m. (CDT), taking on league champion and top-seeded Louisiana-Lafayette.
