Daniel Emerson — who sat out the Hilltoppers’ Nov. 10 preseason contest against Bellarmine — will miss the game as he is still recovering from a fractured collarbone, and Joemal Campbell will have to sit out after reaggravating a fractured jaw in the exhibition contest.
Both players are scheduled to be reevaluated by WKU’s team physicians Monday.
The Toppers will also have to go without Orlando Mendez-Valdez, who had to return home to San Antonio following a death in his family.
“We’re disappointed that Joemal won’t play in the season opener,” said WKU head coach Darrin Horn. “We hope to have him back as soon as possible, but Joemal’s long-term health is more important to us right now than one game.”
Tip-off against the Governors is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. (CST).
