BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – Third-seeded New Orleans got 31 points from Bo McCalebb, and the Privateers endured their fourth overtime game in five outings in posting a 91-89 double-overtime victory over No. 6 seed North Texas on Sunday in the final quarterfinal game of the Aropostale Sun Belt Championships.
With the win, UNO (16-13) will face No. 2 seed Arkansas-Little Rock in Monday’s 8 p.m. semifinal game.
Privateer senior guard Kyle Buggs added 26 points for the Privateers, who led by as many as 12 with less than 10 minutes left in regulation.
The Mean Green (13-15) got 27 points from Leonard Hopkins, who was one of five players in double figures. Shawnson Johnson had a tournament-record 21 rebounds, tied a tournament record with eight blocks and also contributed 10 points.
The game marked the first double overtime Sun Belt Tournament game since March 3, 1996, when UNO defeated then-Southwestern Louisiana in the tournament semifinals. UNO went on to win the tournament title.
