Becker comes to the Hill from Clearwater, Fla., where she has played for Cambridge High School and Team FLA. As a pitcher, she compiled a 43-2 record through her first three years of high school (playing her first two seasons at Countryside High Schoo)l; she maintained a 0.58 ERA last season while pitching 157 innings and fanning 296 batters. The pitcher/first baseman/outfielder batted .457 for Cambridge last season, collecting 25 RBI and scoring 36 runs. Becker was a catalyst in the Lancers’ run to the state championship game, where they suffered a one-run loss.
Horesky will join the Hilltopper squad upon completion of her senior year at Gar-Field High School in Woodbridge, Va. The third baseman is a three-year starter for the Lady Indians and a two-year player on her ASA team. In action with Gar-Field High, Horesky has compiled a .347 batting average with 70 hits, 43 runs scored, and 42 RBI. She was named first-team all-district in 2003 and 2004, second-team all-region in 2004, and Lady Indian MVP in 2004. To go along with her athletic talents, Horesky received the 2004 Academic Excellence Award from Gar-Field High School.
Miles will come to the Hill from Mercy Academy in Louisville, Ky. Besides playing for the Seventh Region champion Jaguars, Miles is also a standout player for the Louisville Lady Sluggers (ASA). She played in all 45 games for the Lady Sluggers in 2004 and tied for the team lead in homeruns (3) and triples (6). Miles’ glove is good as well; she made 79 putouts and committed only six errors for a .949 fielding percentage. She helped the 2004 Lady Sluggers become ASA National runners-up. Miles was also named first-team all-region in 2004 and 2005 and first team all-district each of the last three years. For Mercy, she batted .385 last season with 28 RBI and 28 stolen bases.
Rogge (pronounced RO-GEE), a senior at Orange Park High School in Orange Park, Fla., is also a standout player for the ASA Lady Bombers. In the 11 games in which stats were kept last summer, Rogge pitched 83 innings and allowed only nine runs, good for a 0.81 ERA. As a hitter, in those 11 contests, Rogge batted .362 and smacked six doubles, one triple, and one homerun.
“I am very excited about my first recruiting class,” said Lawson. “All four athletes should make an immediate impact on the program. Both Ryan and Samantha will not only add depth to the pitching staff, but also power in the batting order. Rebecca and Allie will also be major contributors to the middle of the batting order while maintaining the strong defense that we continually rely on.”
The Hilltoppers will lose five players to graduation at the end of the 2005 season. Western was 35-23 last spring.
