Bowling Green, Ky. - The Hilltoppers posted two four-run innings on their way to a 9-1 victory over the Westerwinds on Sunday afternoon. Western Kentucky plated nine runs off 10 hits over the game's six innings, to improve their record to 6-10 on the season.
Junior co-captain Allison Silver went the distance for her second win of the year, as the Westerwinds managed just one run off of Silver in the first inning, compliments of an RBI single from Jen Tyrell. Silver topped off her strong outing on the mound, with a 2-2 day at the plate, including her team-leading fifth double of the season and a season-high two RBI.
Sophomore Dana Rey sparked the WKU offense in the top of the third with a bases-clearing, to put Western ahead for good 3-1. Rey went 2-4 on the day with a career high three RBI, while scoring twice herself.
Western added four more runs in the top of the fifth, highlighted by a two-RBI single from freshman Samantha Young, the first hit of her collegiate career. Junior Riley Garcia opened the game with a leadoff double, extending her hit streak to nine games.
